Be a Wanderer: Baler

Baler is one of the well known places for surfing here in the Philippines. Last year me and my college friends went to Baler to surf and do some sight seeing around the area. We took a 6 hour road trip to Baler early in the morning.

Before heading down to the beach area we stopped at the city central to have lunch. We also took some pictures at the big BALER city sign, the infamous Doña Aurora Quezon house and the Museo de Baler.

We also went to see the Balete Tree but during a different day. It’s a big tree that’s mentioned in a lot of different supernatural stories here in the Philippines. It’s so big we were able to go inside the tree! We also took a lot of touristy shots around the tree.

After that we went to Ditumabo Falls which is also called ‘Mother Falls’. It was a bit of a trek to the falls but we were rewarded by this refreshing body of water.

We stayed at Aliya Surf Camp during our entire trip. During one of the nights of our stay they seemed to have an open mic night and a friend braved the crowd  and sang on stage. It really made our trip memorable.

During the morning of our last day we went surfing. It was a good thing I already learned the basics because I got to do more advanced techniques this time like paddling before going up for the wave! Although it was a lot more challenging and I just got the hang of it during the latter part of our surfing session, this was really fun!

I can’t wait to try surfing again and learn more techniques. Hopefully next time I won’t need an instructor anymore. 🙂
